UPDATED: Emergency services are attending a road traffic collision between a van and a motorcycle on Whiterails Road near Wootton this morning (Friday).
The incident has taken place in the dip outside Butterfly World.
Police, fire and ambulance crews are all on scene having been alerted to the incident at around 10:20.
1 female is said to be trapped inside a vehicle and she is being freed by fire crews. The motorcyclist, a male, has been injured.
The road is closed in both directions. As a result, all Southern Vectis Route 9 buses are diverting via Fairlee Road.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area, diverting via Blacklands Lane, Long Lane or Fairlee Road.
UPDATE @ 11:06 – The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has been called to the scene by the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
The road is expected to remain closed for several hours.
UPDATE @ 12:25 – Island Echo understands that life-threatening injuries have been sustained in the crash as a result of the motorcyclist smashing head-on into the van.
Witnesses say the motorcyclist was not wearing full protective clothing.
Whiterails Road is expected to remain closed for most of the day whilst Police conduct a full Collision Investigation.
Monkey Haven say they remain open for business as normal, with access from the Newport end.
UPDATE @ 15:10 – Whiterails Road has now reopened to traffic.
