Local hairdresser’s donned new hairstyles on Wednesday in support of CLIC Sargent – the UK’s leading children’s cancer charity.
The staff at Union Jack Hair in Ryde wore their wigs whilst styling customers new do’s for the event on 20th May, to help raise money for children and young people with cancer, and their families.
Thousands of people across the UK joined in the wig modelling for the day to raise funds and show support for children and young people with cancer, many of whom lose their hair during treatment.
Wig Wednesday is a great annual campaign which gets everybody together having some fun with wigs while supporting children and young people with cancer.
Union Jack Hair owner Sophie King said:
“We all enjoyed taking part in CLIC Sargent’s campaign, and we managed to raise £47. All our customers enjoyed us working in wigs too, and felt fun to put smiles on the locals faces”.
CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager for Isle of Wight, Joy Morley said:
“We’re so pleased that local businesses across the UK are showing their support and have taken part in this year’s Wig Wednesday. We are delighted to have seen such an increase in participation, specifically across Isle of Wight.
“Every day ten children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer and CLIC Sargent is here to provide vital support from diagnosis onwards. Last year we supported 74 children and young people from Cornwall.
“Wig Wednesday is a great opportunity for schools, businesses, universities and communities to raise money and support children and young people with cancer.”
