Residents at Old Charlton House in Cowes were treated to a Hawaiian-themed summer party with sunshine, sparkles and smiles all round.
The annual event saw the home transformed into a tropical paradise, complete with a Tiki Bar and a vibrant photo backdrop to transport everyone to the islands of Hawaii. Residents were adorned with traditional flower garlands (Lei) and had glittery sparkles applied, adding to the fun and festive mood.
Families were invited to join in the celebration – and they did so in style. It was the biggest turnout in 3 years, with relatives dressing up in Hawaiian shirts, bright colours, flowers in their hair and Leis around their necks and wrists. Staff also got into the spirit with full Hawaiian fancy dress, which the residents absolutely loved.
Music was provided by Vectis Brass, who made their debut appearance at the home – and were a huge hit. Dressed in Leis themselves, the band entertained with a cheerful and jolly set that had residents clapping along and singing to 1940s classics and ABBA favourites.
A raffle was held with top prizes including wine and a feel-good hamper donated by Hamper Fairy. There was also a light-hearted quiz about Hawaii, which proved trickier than expected but was tackled in great spirits. Linda, Gladys and Audrey came out on top and each won a bar of chocolate.
A photo booth with props and accessories gave families the chance to capture some joyful memories. The atmosphere was one of happiness and togetherness, with lots of laughter and smiling faces.

Karen, daughter of residents Adrian and Joanie, said:
“Just look at those smiles on mum and dad’s faces. A picture of happiness. I’ve not seen them both so happy in such a long time.”
Chefs Leigh and Beth laid on a delicious buffet tea, which was enjoyed by all.
At the end of the afternoon, residents were tired but happy, with many reflecting on how special the day had been.
Lyn said:
“What a wonderful afternoon – I enjoyed every minute of it.”
Molly added:
“It was so much fun. Everyone in the home came together – friends, family and staff – and it was a party with a very homely atmosphere.”
Marguerite’s daughter commented:
“What an amazing afternoon. Mum and I both loved it and had a good time.”
Activities coordinator Debbie said:
“What a wonderful afternoon we had. It was so heartwarming to see so many families coming to celebrate with their loved ones, and that they dressed up was most appreciated. The residents were buzzing with excitement and the staff looked fantastic and worked so hard. The whole day ran very smoothly and couldn’t have gone better.”
