Southern Vectis is once again marking Father’s Day by offering the Island’s youngsters the chance to take their dads on the bus for free.
The local bus operator will provide complimentary travel for fathers on Sunday (15th June) – as long as they are accompanied by a child buying a 24 Rover ticket.
Nikki Honer, Southern Vectis’ Head of Communications, says:
“It’s not always easy picking a gift for Father’s Day. It can certainly be a bit tricky for many. So how about this? Dads can spend their special day with their offspring – travelling across the region on us.
“There are plenty of great places to visit across the Isle of Wight – and this is an excellent opportunity to leave the car at home, relax and take an adventure together. A chance for kids to return the favour and take on the role of ‘dad’s taxi’ – even if it’s just for one day.”
Every child buying a 24 hour Rover ticket for journeys during Father’s Day will be able to take dad for free.

I had reason to use the island buses the other day. Travelled back from Newport to Shanklin on the No. 2 service in what was obviously a virtually new double decker and have never had such an unpleasant journey. The backs of the seats in font were at around eye level and though I am not very tall,5ft. 7 inches, my knees were almost touching the seat in front. I could virtually see none of the view outside and my wife sitting next to me couldn’t see a thing with the height of the seat in front and a side pillar between two windows, the bottoms of which were about chin high. Southern Vectis are always advertising “See the Island by bus” but if you travelled on that bus you would see none of it. I reckon you’d have almost had a pleasanter journey in a black mariah. Please Southern Vectis, don’t buy any more of those buses.
Like everything new thesedays, you cannot beat
the old buses of yesteryear.
They are much more comfortable than these new buses.
Too be honest I rarely use buses on the island unless
special occasions like the open deckers.
I prefer travelling on the old buses from Ryde
museum when they are out and about.
Also great fun.
