UPDATED: Ferries have been cancelled and high speed services are running with delays due to the foggy conditions on the Solent this morning (Friday).

Wightlink have cancelled the 06:40 car ferry sailing from Lymington and the 07:50 from Yarmouth due to the severe fog. Their Fishbourne-Portsmouth service is running to timetable, as is the catamaran service from Ryde Pier Head.

Hovertravel have advised that they are running with 10 minute delays as a result of the fog. They are also operating a 1-craft revised timetable for the next 5 weeks.

Red Funnel’s Red Jet service is said to be delayed by 5-10 minutes also, but the car ferry service from East Cowes is running to time.

As first reported by Island Echo yesterday, a yellow weather warning for fog has been issued by the IW MET Service. It remains in force until 10:00 tomorrow morning.

UPDATE @ 08:20 – Red Funnel are now operating a shuttle service on their hi-speed Red Jet due to the deteriorating conditions. Their car ferry service from East Cowes is now delayed by 25 minutes.

Meanwhile at the other end of the Solent, Hovertravel are operating with delays of 20 minutes.

UPDATE @ 08:44 – Wightlink have now cancelled the 08:45 sailing from Lymington and the 10:05 from Yarmouth.

Red Funnel say their car ferry service between East Cowes and Southampton is delayed by 1 hour due to reduced visibility.

UPDATE @ 09:29 – Red Funnel have suspended their car ferry service until further notice.

UPDATE @ 10:11 – Wightlink have announced that the 10:30 Fishbourne to Portsmouth car ferry sailing has been cancelled  due to the severe fog.

UPDATE @ 10:21 – Red Funnel’s car ferry service has now resumed, but those crossing the Solent should be aware of disruption to services for the next few hours.

The firm also say that their Red Jet service has now resumed to timetable.
