Sandown’s latest toilet reprovision project, at Eastern Gardens, has started with the removal of the railings and preparation work for the siting of the new toilet block, which is to include an accessible toilet and showers.
The Eastern Gardens reprovision at the corner of Culver Parade and Avenue Road Slipway follows that of St John’s Road, with both coin and card operated toilets being installed that are full accessibility and have baby-changing facilities.
The project is costing in excess of £200,000. Councillors are in the process of consulting on the 2023/24 budget, including the possible reprovision of a further public convenience in the town.
Deputy Town Mayor, Alex Lightfoot, has said:
“Following extensive public consultation, and securing planning and consents from the local authority, the contractors are on site with the work likely to be completed well before Christmas.
“We are grateful for Green Town Volunteers for their help relocating the plants, and we hope to use the planters in a new project in 2023, once this major project has been completed and opened to the public”.

What a total waste of money.
Those who live here have toilets and showers at home. Those on holiday have such in their hotel
So on the odd occasion people need to poo or wee in a public wc then a stainless steel no seat vandal proof pan with rough cast concrete walls would suffice
Just an expensive target for benefit dragged up dross and cottage dwellers
My sentiments entirely England.
If it wasn’t for the tourists where would the islands employment come from?
Another waste of money.
in such times money needs to be spent wisely.
