Isle of Wight skeleton athlete Kimberley Murray has secured a top 10 finish in the latest and final round of the BMW IBSF World Cup.
Kim was first to take to the ice at 08:00 GMT this morning (Sunday) for the women’s skeleton event, which saw 25 athletes from around the world come together in Sigulda, Latvia with the hope of securing much-needed championship points.
On her first run the 31-year-old put in a respectable time of 52.92, securing 16th position at the end of Heat 1.
It was the former Long Jump athlete’s second run on the short but fast track in a time of 52:45 that boosted her overall position to 10th (1:45.37), just 1 second behind the Netherland’s Kimberley Bos and 3 positions ahead of team mate Laura Deas.
Kim, from Binstead, says she is happy with today’s result which sees her finish this season’s World Cup in 18th position overall out of 32 competitors – not a bad finish seeing as Kim did not compete in 2 of the 8 events (Winterberg and Königssee).
The journey continues for Murray who is hoping to compete for her country – and of course the Island – in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
