The annual West Wight Tennis Tournament – which was held on one of the hottest days of the year – raised £2,200 for Dementia UK Admiral Nurses IW.
A cheque for £2,284 was recently handed over to Sally, Lady Grylls, President of the Dementia UK Admiral Nurses IW Appeal, by Chris Goodman, the retiring organiser of the tournament.
Chris explains:
“On one of the hottest days in July 50 tennis players showed their passion and their commitment to the sport by competing in the annual West Wight Tennis Tournament. Each year this popular tournament is played at various venues around the West Wight with the final and buffet lunch being held at Westover House in Calbourne, courtesy of Mrs Caroline Weeks.”
Chris has thanked all the numerous businesses that supported the West Wight tournament by kindly donating items for the buffet and the fantastic catering team from St Catherine’s School Ventnor, who will be the chosen charity for next year’s tennis tournament.
Lady Grylls has said:
“Thank you very much to all of you for making so much money. It’s such a fantastic charity to support because everyone knows someone with dementia.
“I do hope that we can have an Admiral Nurse back at Mountbatten soon, and we are actively searching for a benefactor who could make that happen.”
Retiring Chair of the Dementia UK Admiral Nurses, Catherine Flury, adds:
“Thank you so much for this wonderful donation, and the support of the West Wight Tennis tournament committee.”
