TEENAGER ARRESTED FOR FAILING TO STOP AFTER CRASH AT PONDWELL

A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, driving whilst unfit through drink and resisting arrest following a crash on the outskirts of Ryde last night (Thursday). Police were called to Pondwell Hill, between Nettlestone and Appley, at 20:38 to reports of a single-vehicle collision. It had been reported that a Ford Fiesta had collided with a wall but that the occupants had fled. Officers were deployed to the scene but couldn’t locate those involved. At the same time, other officers were dealing with a road traffic collision at Cowleaze Hill near Ventnor. Then, at 22:24, another 999 call was made to Police reporting concerns for the welfare of a man at Chapel Street car park in Newport. Police attended and a 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest and 2 driving offences relating to the Pondwell crash, namely failing to stop after a collision and driving whilst unfit through drink. The 19-year-old has been released from custody but remains under investigation while enquiries continue.
