3 people have had a lucky escape after the driver of a Subaru Impreza lost control on the main road between Ventnor and Shanklin. Emergency services are in attendance on Bonchurch Road tonight (Thursday) as a result of the single-vehicle collision. Island Echo understands the vehicle was travelling towards Shanklin at speed when, in wet conditions, the driver lost control on a bend. It’s thought the car spun and collided with a hedge before coming to a stop some distance from the corner. Damage is evident down at least 1 side. 2 ambulances from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are on scene alongside Police, but no one is thought to have been injured. The road remains open in both directions. Recovery has been arranged. UPDATE ON FRIDAY – Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that a 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving. He has been released from custody, but investigations continue.
