2 teenage girls who are alleged to have stolen a car, taken it for a joyride around Ryde and then crashed after ignoring a red light have been arrested by Police.
As first reported by Island Echo, a Nissan Micra sustained front end damage in a crash on Pelhurst Road, at the junction with Queen’s Road, shortly before 23:00 last night (Thursday).
It’s understood the driver of the car ignored a no entry sign and a red light when exiting Mayfield Road, crashing after failing to turn quickly enough. As a result, the car hit the kerb, a bollard and a stone wall.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed officers came across the crash at 22:43.
A 15-year-old girl and a 16-year-old girl were arrested at the scene on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.
The girls were then taken to their home addresses.
Enquiries continue and officers will no doubt be examining footage of the crash recorded by the passenger of the car on their mobile phone.
Anyone with information or saw what happened, or has CCTV or dash cam footage which can assist Police, is asked to call Police on 101 or report online quoting 44230136715.
Just the norm then for quality parental control on the island.

Why were they taken home? Normally people go to a police station after they get arrested.
Why taken home?, if had been two lads they would of been arrested and taken to police stn and parents told to come collect them. No licence,no insurance , stolen car and driving reckless.
Then why didn’t the police arrest the rubbish that dragged them up….
You can have amazing parents and kids not so – they aren’t young and I’m sure haven’t been told to do this by a parent.
Oh gosh… this means another youth or two being treated like delicate little flowers, offered help from specialists in a silly attempt to right their wrongs and set them on the right path whilst they luxuriate in the attention and then go back to the same group of ‘friends’ who encouraged them to become vile creatures in the first place! What about the folk terrified by their ridiculous attempt to drive like a grown up whilst endangering all and sundry? Why were they just ‘returned home’ and not made to spend a night in the cells? It must be time to clamp down on uncontrollable youths, and their families if they cannot control them… Get tough, not more interested in their sad tales and making excuses for them.
