UPDATED: It’s not a good day for Solent travel with high winds and technical issues resulting in the suspensions and cancellations of several cross-Solent services.
Red Funnel’s Hi-Speed Red Jet service between West Cowes and Southampton has been suspended due to a technical issue. According to sources, Red Jet 4 suffered a failure just outside of Cowes Harbour and required the assistance of a launch. It has docked at the West Cowes terminal but is unable to proceed any further without a tug.
Meanwhile Hovertravel’s service between Ryde and Southsea is suspended due to the adverse weather conditions. In addition, the company are down to 1 craft due to a major technical issue with Solent Flyer.
Wightlink’s Yarmouth-Lymington car ferry service has not escaped difficulties. The 15:00 and 17:00 from Lymington and the 16:05 and 18:05 from Yarmouth have all been cancelled as a result of the winds battering the Western Solent.
UPDATED: Red Jet 4 has now been towed clear of the mooring at West Cowes allowing for a regular service to resume.
Wightlink’s Fastcat catamaran service has been hit by delays this afternoon also, but things have now eased onthe Ryde Pier Head to Portsmouth route.
