The discovery of a piece of suspected ordnance led to Royal Navy Bomb Disposal experts being sent to the Isle of Wight yesterday (Monday).
It was at 23:45 on Sunday evening that Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary alerted HM Coastguard to the potentially explosive find on the beach at Totland, near to Widdick Chine.
The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team was mobilised to investigate, with the decision taken by the Royal Navy to send the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team over at the next suitable tide.
Bomb Disposal experts arrived on the Island yesterday afternoon and after carrying out an assessment, they removed the object.
All cordons in the area have since been lifted.

Obligatory Great Preston road comment
I just wish more people could park there. It’d slow the traffic.
Yes GPR, looks and feels like ordnance has exploded under the road.
Why do they not say what it was ?
