Book FrontIsland author Jo Cooper launched her latest book – A Red Sky – at Medina bookshop in Cowes on Monday.

Set in 1940, the new book details the lives and experiences of 10-year-old evacuees to the Isle of Wight.

As the war starts to intensify, and Portsmouth and the South Coast become targets for the German War Planes with their bombing, Lyndy’s father, who is an Auxillary Fireman in Portsmouth evacuates her to the island as he stays and fights the fires. Lyndy meets Reggie and we learn all about their escapades together, as well as how they live their lives as the war rages on.

This comes after she presented pre-book release signing of her second book at The Museum of Ryde, last Saturday.

Jo researched the facts of the time including the night of 20th January 1941 when Portsmouth was Blitzed and from the Island there was ‘A Red Sky’ above the city.

With illustrations done by Island Artist, Maria Ward, this is a book written for children but is also being enjoyed by adults.
