The Isle of Wight College would like to reassure the Isle of Wight community that, despite planned University and College Union (UCU) strike action over the next 3 days (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday), the college will remain open and ready to welcome students.
While some staff may take part in the strike, most lessons will run as normal, and we encourage all students to attend according to their usual timetables.
If any scheduled lessons cannot go ahead, the college will provide alternative arrangements, including supervised study spaces on campus, so students can continue their learning in a safe and productive environment.
CECAMM students will be based at the Newport campus for all lessons during these dates. To make this easier, a free minibus service will run between CECAMM and Newport campus.
Isle of Wight College Principal and CEO, Ros Parker stated:
“The Isle of Wight College acknowledges and respects the concerns raised by our staff regarding the long-standing underfunding of the Further Education sector. We fully recognise their right to take industrial action and make their voices heard.
“We have implemented the Association of Colleges’ recommendation for a 4% pay award and remain committed to working collaboratively with our teams to manage and reduce workload wherever possible. We will continue to prioritise our students learning and progress and we will take all necessary steps to minimise disruption to their learning during this period.
“Thank you for your understanding and support as we navigate these challenges together.”

Well done to all those taking part in this- it’s about time that the colleges so-called “department managers” actually did some work themselves, rather than just passing the admin. work onto the already stressed staff
Since the pandemic people have become lazy, they want to be
paid for doing nothing.
So many people are still shirking from home on full pay.
Your point is?
