Following a successful race event last Friday, Wight Karting is ready to re-open the track to competitors from this Saturday, just in time for Father’s Day.
A number of changes have been made including capping the number of racers at any one time to 6, as well as investment in a UV sterilization unit for helmets and racing suits after each use.
Additional outdoor spaces have been opened up and measures implemented to accommodate social distancing.
Andy and Cathy Foulkes, who run the family business at Westridge in Ryde, say:
“We have undertaken the necessary training and preparations with a deep clean and made various changes in line with the government guidelines.
“We are very pleased and hope this instils confidence in other Island businesses to take the leap into an uncertain future.
“We are looking forward to opening up for an activity for people to get involved in again after lockdown”.
Last Friday’s race saw 12 of the Island’s top kart racers hosted at the updated venue and enjoyed a tightly fought jostle over 2x 20-lap races, 1 of which is run in reverse. The result was Mike Jolliffe finishing first, Dom Clements second and Simon Johnstone third, all receiving trophies on the new, socially distanced outdoor podium.
With Father’s Day on Sunday, the Wight Karting team are looking forward to a strong bounce back to business. Bookings can be made via phone and online only.
