SMELL OF BURNING PROMPTS FIRE SERVICE RESPONSE TO HOSPITAL

UPDATED: 3 fire appliances and an aerial ladder platform are on scene at St Mary’s Hospital in Newport this morning (Friday) as firefighters investigate reports of the smell of burning.

The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to the potential fire at 10:15, sparking the turn out of 2 appliances from Newport, 1 from East Cowes and an aerial ladder platform from Ryde.

Crews are checking over the building, but on this occasion it appears to be a false alarm.

UPDATE – Fire crews have now stood down having ascertained the incident is a false alarm.

All appliances are returning to their respective stations.
