The volunteer crew of Bembridge RNLI were mustered for the 22nd shout of the year this afternoon (Tuesday) after a member of the public spotted a possible upturned RIB off the coast.
At around 16:45, Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the D-class inshore lifeboat after it had been reported by a member of the public that they had seen an object in the water in the vicinity of Bembridge Ledge.
The object was described as possibly being the black hull of an upside down RIB.
The ‘Norman Harvey’ initially carried out a shoreline search of the Ledge and having only spotted some corks in a fishing net, they extended the search to Black Rock.
In the meantime, Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team conducted further searches ashore.
With nothing seen by eithe the lifeboat or the shore-based Coastguards, Solent Coastguard stood the search down at 17:45.
