Ella Haydon and Immy Burfitt won gold medals in the J13 Girls Double Sculls as Shanklin Junior Rowing Squad enjoyed a successful day of silverware at The Ball Cup South, staged at the Olympic venue Dorney Lake, Eton.
There were also silver medals for Beth Katirewa in the J16 Girls Single Scull and Fred Giemza-Pipe in his 1st competitive sculling race in the J17 Men’s Single Scull, with team-mate Ollie Hatch finishing in 5th.
Frances Katirewa finished in 4th spot in the J18 Sculls as did Haydon and Layla Katirewa, rowing up an age group, in the J14 Double Sculls.
The ladies’ J18 Double Sculls crew of Frances Katirewa and Esme Walters narrowly missed out on the A final, finishing in 8th place in a strong field.
With the forthcoming season filled with both National events and the local Hants and Dorset racing, SSRC continue to build their strength in depth in training, across a range of ages, boat classes and disciplines.
Shanklin Sandown Rowing club also enjoyed victories at Newport Small Boats regatta on Sunday with Louis Sheasby winning the J16 Sculls race from clubmate Carter Horrix and – in another all Shanklin final – Simon Nevitt won the master’s sculls race from John Langborne.
Louis just missed out on securing a 2nd win at the event, finishing 2nd in the men’s novice sculls race, a remarkable achievement as it was his 5th race of the day.
The club’s Novice Men’s 4 and the Mixed J15 Quad both secured 2nd-place finishes in their respective races.
