Police, with the support of WightSAR, are conducting a search for missing 34-year-old Anthony ‘Spencer’ May from Newport, with extreme concerns growing for his welfare.
Anthony was last seen around 12:45 today and is described as being white, around 6ft 3ins tall, of slim build and with short hair and stubble.
The 34-year-old, who is known locally as Spencer, was last seen wearing a red and blue coat, dark blue jeans, brown boots and he had a black hiking pole with him.
He also has a tattoo of a St George’s Cross flag on the back of his neck and writing on his right forearm.
Police believe he will still be in the Newport area.
A rendezvous point has been established at Carisbrooke, with volunteers from Isle of Wight Search and Rescue conducting a search in the area surrounding The Priory.
The team were initially put on standby at 13:35 before being tasked an hour later at 14:35.
Meanwhile, at Burnt House Lane, on the other side of Newport, a large number of Police officers are searching the old Shide chalk pit. A Saab car is also being recovered from Pan Lane.

UPDATE @ 22:52 – Police have confirmed that missing Anthony has now been found.
Island Echo understands he was located deep within undergrowth at Shide Chalk Pit.
