The search for a man who has gone missing from the Staplers area of Newport is underway tonight (Wednesday).
Police and volunteers from WightSAR – the Island’s volunteer search and rescue team – are battling the wet, dark conditions in a bid to locate the vulnerable individual.
It’s known that Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary was alerted to the situation at around 20:15 with officers responding to a property on Staplers Road, near Broadlands House.
Due to the information given to Police, the situation was escalated at 20:46 with the decision made to call out WightSAR.
The search continues – but no information as to the person’s description has been made available by Police at this time.]
UPDATE THURSDAY – It’s understood that the search moved to Brighstone overnight amid reports to Police of a man acting in a strange manner in the area of Lynch Lane.
Coastguard Rescue 175 helicopter was called in to assist with search efforts.
A statement from Police is expected later this morning.
UPDATE THURSDAY @ 09:29 – It has been confirmed that the man, aged in his 20s, was located by Police overnight as a result of enquiries conducted.

The lad knew exactly where he was and what he was up to and is shocked that so much fuss has been made about him. Honestly, he was just enjoying a bit of peace away from the madding crowd.
