A wall at the front of a property in Sandford was destroyed earlier this week after a driver lost control in icy road conditions. The incident occurred on the A3020 at Sandford overnight between Tuesday 9th and Wednesday 10th January. Island Echo understands that the driver – who lost control and smashed into the wall – left the scene without exchanging details with the property owners. It is believed that surface water, running onto the road from the nearby Redhill Lane, washed away the grit that had been spread that evening, in turn freezing as the temperatures dropped. This is the 3rd time that the wall has been destroyed. Island Echo last reported on the incident back in January 2022.

That road needs sorting, often surplus water and flooding
You don’t have to be very smart to link together in your mind the facts that it’s January, freezing temperatures are forecast and many of our roads are still wet. But still they ignore the obvious and continue to plough on into danger.
I think it’s time for every driver to be retested at regular intervals, maybe five years?
just anther can’t drive island driver
You can’t always blame Island drivers, they are not an urban myth.
Motorists need to control their speed, especially in icy conditions.
The motorist did slow down though – when they hit the wall..
Driver left the scene……..
Next time you’re out for a walk glance at the state of the tires of the park cars. You soon see why some just fall off the road when conditions get poor. When you stop maintaining your car the chance of an accident increases. Driver is probably a Tory, they seem to think the only way to make things better is to stop spending any money on it. As an example, they moan about education standards but then call for the schools budgets to be cut.
Tyres ( you mentioned Education standards) !
For Christs sake stop making stupid unfounded political jibes, it’s pathetic. They are all as bad as each other, and all looking out for number 1 first.
Left the scene, why, no honest reason. Could be drugs or drink most likely.
