Visitors to Ryde can once again book sea and sand-friendly wheelchairs, walkers and other essential accessibility equipment completely free of charge – helping to make the town’s popular seafront welcoming and accessible for all.
For the second year running, the free service is available to book online via the Ryde Marina website. This initiative is part of Ryde’s wider commitment to inclusive tourism and improving access for residents and visitors with reduced mobility, disabilities or additional needs.
Available equipment includes specially designed sea and sand wheelchairs that can travel over soft sand and into the water, as well as sturdy beach walkers for use on sand. A 320-metre accessible boardwalk stretches across Harbour Beach, providing step-free access right onto the sand, and a fully equipped Changing Place unit is positioned at the boardwalk entrance. Blue Badge parking bays and step-free routes ensure easy access to all facilities.
A spokesperson for the Ryde Beach Accessibility Team has said:
“Ryde’s seafront should be a place that everyone can enjoy equally – whether you’re going for a paddle, meeting friends for a picnic, or just enjoying the view. We’ve listened to what people need and worked hard to remove barriers so more people can experience everything our beach has to offer.”
The free equipment is available every day until 30th August, with sea wheelchairs subject to tide times. Visitors are encouraged to book in advance at www.rydemarina.wpcomstaging.com/beach-hire-services/beach-accessibility-bookings.

Well done to Ryde, every little helps in todays
economic climate.
its not free though is it – the council tax payers have had to stump up.
