Ryde Fire Station is set to replace its ageing up-and-over appliance bay doors with new red bi-fold doors, after it was determined that the existing doors have reached the end of their life and are uneconomical to repair.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed that the new doors will improve operational efficiency, safety and heat retention. They will also improve response times and safety while cutting maintenance costs for years to come.
It is known that the current up-and-over doors have suffered repeated damage over the years, with one of the bay doors remaining out of action for several months. This has forced the retained appliance to turn out via the rear of the station.
It’s said that the new bi-fold doors will reduce blind spots for drivers, cut the time taken to open and close, and include modern safety sensors to reduce the risk of crushing and accidental vehicle damage. Improved insulation and a more flexible seal will help retain heat in the appliance bays, cutting energy costs.
The red finish will match the rest of the fire service estate, making the station instantly recognisable.
