Residents living next to Red Funnel’s East Cowes terminal have been shocked to see that their homes are set to be demolished under plans for a brand new £14million ferry terminal development in the town.
Cross-Solent ferry operator Red Funnel Ferries have secured funding to redevelop the East Cowes terminal, where their car ferry service operates to Southampton. However, residents living in Dover Road have become angered about the way the consultation for the multi-million pound development has been carried out.
Following a recent display of plans at nearby Waitrose supermarket, those living in the area have discovered their properties would be knocked to the ground to make way for the new terminal, however those living in Dover Road say they haven’t been consulted personally about the future of their homes.
A spokesperson for Red Funnel has this week said that each homeowner will be contacted individually and an that the company is putting together a proposal of what they would like to offer to those homeowners, with the view of purchasing the properties.
Effected properties include a pub, a chinese takeaway and several residential properties.
