Celebrating the 125th Royal Isle of Wight County Show, Natural Enterprise are giving away 125 trees to Island schools and community groups.
Based at Natural Enterprise’s Shide Meadows Centre the Gift to Nature Community Tree Nursery brings together volunteers, local knowledge and practical conservation work to produce trees for planting across the Island.
The establishment of the tree nursery has been supported by the Isle of Wight Festival.
Jon Jewett, Gift to Nature Ranger said:
“With the benefit of lots of support, the tree nursery has been set up to provide locally grown trees for the Island.
“The tree nursery is still in its infancy, but we now have over 3,000 trees at different stages of growth, and this number is set to double as we start to collect seeds this autumn. We are keen to play our part to support tree planting across the Island”.
Furthermore, Natural Enterprise are offering for schools or groups to visit one of the 32 Gift to Nature sites to take part in this year’s seed collection, as well as learning about propagation at the Community Tree Nursery.
Any schools or community groups interested should contact [email protected] or phone 01983 296244.
