A rear-end shunt is causing delays on the dual carriageway this afternoon (Friday).
The incident occurred at around 14:00 and has seen 2 cars collide in the inside lane – heading southbound toward Coppins Bridge.
Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary are at the scene alongside blue light colleagues from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
As a result of the crash, the inside lane is closed from the on slip outside Currys until the off slip for Fairlee Road further down.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

There are far too many Shunts on the Island
Most of them are local Shunts
If people didn’t tail-gate their would be less shunts.
The Island is full of Shunts who cannot drive
Well, well,we’ll,what a surprise (NOT). A definite virus going about at this time is ‘total idiocy ‘ . Tailgating is one of the major reasons for shunts. Young and old are both to blame. For Christ’s sake slow down ,be patient and take your time. Speed limits in all areas should be lowered.
20 is plenty
Wouldn’t be surprised if some idiot stopped to let someone out of the slip road. Although many don’t know how to use the acceleration lane correctly.
Letting someone out of a slip road is politeness not being an idiot. There’s no such thing as an acceleration lane. It’s not F1 out there but the way some idiots drive it’s probably is in their brain.
You should let other road users to slip in but some island idiots stop
Would you stop on our motorways or our duel carriageways. Only been there twice and had drivers up my bumper and I’ve seen them actually stop to let someone on to the carriageways. It should be all 40 mph not 70mph as most of it is.
Speed limit is stupid it should be 40mph over the full length not a dragstrip in the middle
There is no speed limit on the Island.
Driving along Marshcombe Shute this evening from Yaverland and there was
some idiot coming from Brading/Newport to Yaverland direction and was doing
70-80mph+ once he went over the 1 way bridge.
Where is the law on the Island?
Why?? It’s a perfectly safe stretch of duel carriageway if used properly.
Hope the idiot that shunted was reported for Careless Driving.
Some loon in a maroon volvo estate reg. WEV drives like a maniac. Overtaking on blind bends and drives way over the thirty limit.
I can confirm the experienced, never been in accident before driver did not wish to be hit from behind at speed by a young driver whilst stationary, causing lots of pain and discomfort
what a load of shunts…
It would help if people used the overtaking lane for overtaking and not just sit in it all the way down (or up) at 40mph because that’s the lane they need to be in when they get to the roundabout.
