5 ducklings and their mum were rescued by Friends of the Animals after being found hiding under a Biffa lorry in Newport yesterday (Thursday).
Eagle-eyed staff at Biffa Waste Management in Manners View spotted the young waterfowl family and alerted the local charity, as concerns were raised for the duck’s safety given the number of vehicles coming and going all day.
Friends of the Animals were on the scene in no time at all, armed with a net and carrier.
After quickly securing mum in Biffa’s busy yard, volunteers were assisted by waste workers to successfully catch all 5 ducklings.
They were taken back to the charity’s headquarters to be cared for overnight, with local expert Edward Albert due to collect the family later on today.
Helen Luff of Friends of the Animals has said:
“We would like to thank the group from Biffa waste services for calling us and helping the family out of their precarious situation.
“They were so happy to help us which we appreciated and it made all the more easier to secure them all”.
Well done Biffa
