Parents from Godshill, Arreton and Wroxall Primary schools are putting a proposal to Isle of Wight Council for their 3 schools – all earmarked for closure – to be merged.
The parents believed that if their own schools could not be saved individually, a merger between the three would be a welcome idea.
This proposal to the council could make one viable cohort within the central rural area.
Parent Amy Martindale commented:
“We believe that this merger would benefit all parties involved. It would reduce surplus places and staffing costs, minimize the cost of transporting children to school, and provide a hub for Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) education. Additionally, it would enable us to maintain and share resources and staff expertise across the central rural area.
“We are united in our belief that having a GOOD diverse local authority community primary school within the central rural area is in the best interests of our children and future generations. We encourage everyone to complete the consultation process and add any additional comments or suggestions you may have.”
The parents from the 3 schools have issued the following joint statement:
“Having spoken with other parents at Wroxall and Arreton, those we spoke to were keen to propose the merger idea in the consultation feedback if their own school cannot be saved.
“This would make one viable cohort within the central rural area.

We encourage you to complete the consultation process and add any additional comments or suggestions you may have.
“It’s important to note that the consultations can be submitted again with additional information, they should also be completed as an individual and that children, current and alumni can also submit.
“With little over a week remaining it is so important to get your views heard.
“Every voice counts.”
