A convicted paedophile who committed what was described as “one of the worst cases of predatory paedophilia” died from a blood clot and pancreatic cancer, it has been revealed.
Robert Marti, 66, died at HMP Isle of Wight on 12th May 2021, a recently published report has confirmed.
A leading member in a Bournemouth paedophile ring, Marti was found guilty of 21 offences including rape, sexual activity with a child and causing/inciting sexual activity with children back in 2009.
In custody since then and at HMP Isle of Wight since 2015, Marti was diagnosed with cancer in February 2019 and underwent various courses of chemotherapy and radiotherapy between March of that year and April 2020, with it declared at that time his condition was inoperable.
In February of that year, he was told that the end of his life was not far away and was moved to an end of life cell in April after being found on the floor of his cell unresponsive and experiencing serious breathing difficulties.
Marti was the 15th prisoner to die at the prison since May 2019. Of these deaths, 9 were from natural causes and 5 were self-inflicted.
An inquest was held by HM Coroner for the Isle of Wight, Caroline Sumeray, earlier this month.
