Poundland has today (Thursday) opened its latest store on the Isle of Wight in Ryde High Street.
Locals have been anticipating the opening for some time with extensive building works having been undertaken over the past few months. The works have seen the former Gladrags and Sinclair Youngs stores knocked into one with a significant extension to the rear of the two properties.
The discount chain opened the doors to its first Ryde store this morning, making the £1 offers more accessible to Islanders who have previously had to travel to Newport or Shanklin.
At previous store openings a celebrity has traditionally cut the ribbon, but today’s opening saw no such fanfare. The store’s opening comes almost a year since Island Echo exclusively revealed the national chain’s plans.
Poundland’s Trading Director, Richard Lancaster, says:
“We are delighted to bring our unique proposition to Ryde. Poundland offers amazing value on top branded products to over 5.5 million customers every week for just £1 and we look forward to opening our doors!”
Since opening its first store 25 years ago, Poundland now has over 590 stores nationwide and offers amazing everyday value with thousands of items at just £1 each.
