UPDATED: Royal Navy Bomb Disposal experts are in attendance at Lane End, Bembridge this evening (Monday) following the discovery of a potential explosive device.
The object is understood to be situated some distance from the shore between Bembridge Lifeboat Station and Forelands.
Police were made aware of the discovery earlier this afternoon.
Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team are on scene and are liaising with the Bomb Disposal Team from Portsmouth.
UPDATE @ 19:15 – The Royal Navy have now left Bembridge content that the device discovered is not an explosive.
The incident has been brought to a close.
