A car that was sighted being driven by a driver without a valid licence has been seized by Police after it was found abandoned in a garage block in Sandown.
Officers on patrol spotted the blue Vauxhall Corsa being driven along Perowne Way yesterday afternoon (Friday). But when they tried to stop the car, the driver decided otherwise and failed to stop for Police.
Island Echo readers say that the car sped through the residential area with Police not far behind, but Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary says that no pursuit took place.
The vehicle was soon located parked in a garage block off Perowne Way and was subsequently seized. The driver had done a runner from the scene though.
It’s said that not only did the driver not hold a valid license, but it had been discovered that there was no insurance policy in place nor any tax on the car.
Follow-up enquiries will be made, Police say.

Another scrapper… do the Police get paid for all the scrap vehicles they get destroyed..
That’s a good point, maybe they should open a breakers yard and sell these parts then maybe the police can stop asking for more money every year on our council tax for doing little work
That is a very good point , also would give a few local people a wage , plenty of money in breakers yards with parts and panels etc , all for it fella
Don’t they go up for auction?
Hardly a scrapper. It’s been lowered and has after market alloys. Someone has spent money on this car, just forgot to make it road legal. Too many idiots who think they can get away with it on the island………not now, times are changing!
Another car for the tin can company.
Crush it, it’s the only thing that will get their attention. Pity they don’t film the car being crushed and make the driver sit and watch it.
great idea, tv program called “my first crush “ anyone?, they probably won’t do it twice.
Why crush it? Deregister it and sell it. Much more environmentally friendly, and proceeds go back into government funds, surely a better result.
If the car is saleable, it should be sold and the money to go into police funds.
No license, no tax and no insurance – off to the crusher then 🙂
Likely what the Police failed to find was drugs on the cretin.
In Latvia, they send cars, seized from drunk drivers, to Ukraine, to help in the war against Russia..

Perhaps they should do the same here, with any cars they seize.
The government couldn’t afford to ship them on the ferries to Portsmouth Southampton
how can they not catch it. it’s a corsa
Makes you wonder how many of this vermin are on the island….
Go down union road in ryde, yelf carpark has mulitple cars without MOT and TAX anyone gunna get them off the streets ?
If they’re in a private car park, then they are off the streets already.
Why do these types think it’s ok to drive illegally. They don’t deserve to drive on public roads. Take the car and crush it or sell it and take the proceeds, I’m sure the Police can put the money to good use.
I’ve tried to subscribe without success.
There are plenty of untaxed & quite possibly unMOT’d cars parked in our road. All owned by those, of which us, the working backbone of Britain go out to work & pay for their rent etc. whilst they sit back & fill our streets with scrap, which will no doubt appear on facebay & the like, for sale, on a CASH only basis!!
What a f…… idiot! Why do all of us who pay tax/ insurance/ mot/ have to put up with this? Someone knows who it is? The person driving needs to be named and shamed? Luckily there was no police chase or it could of been a lot worse?
Well done
If the owner was driving car crush it
I hope they do do the follow up enquiries and some substantial punishment is imposed, one being financial and community service if not detained at His Majesty’s pleasure, not that would do much only teach him new ways of going against society.
There is a white BMW 3 series driving round Ventnor with a young lad who doesn’t have road tax.. it’s amazes me how he hasn’t been caught yet..
Fuzz couldn’t catch a cold
It’s about time the yellow Vauxhall Corsa that
Parks on the pavement outside the Council Houses along Great Preston Road
