The pursuit of a car in East Cowes has been called off by Police as the situation has become to dangerous to continue.
At around 16:00, a silver car – thought to be a VW Polo – failed to stop for officers prompting a pursuit to begin.
A large number of officers, bolstered by 3 mainland traffic cars over for the day, descended on East Cowes in a bid to stop the vehicle and detain the driver.
The chase proceeded down Beatrice Avenue, Victoria Grove and Yarborough Road.
However, the pursuit has now been called off due to being too dangerous, especially with a number of children heading home from school.
Police remain in the area looking for the suspect vehicle.

Think you will find the mainland cars over yesterday too. Saw one in waitrose. Hope they get the idiot driver.
Theres one main road in and out of East Cowes! Park at the Forge in Whippingham and you have cut off the exit.. begs the question of how do these pursuits keep happening and police just give up.
Well you could escape the other way by using the floati…….. oh no never mind, forget I said anything
Another one escapes from the pursuing posse, again
So you would be happy to have that pursuit ploughing through the crowds of school children turning out into the streets?
Not trained in pursuit tactics are you.
Such I difficult situation for the police. They are trained to risk assess the situation and if too dangerous, to call it off. They will come again.
I think the police have done the right thing by suspending the pursuit, these lumps of excrement don’t give a dam if they kill someone.
I expect the driver is on drugs and dealing drugs, let’s hope he gets caught and put in prison…
If you read the report properly the Police gave up the chase because it became too dangerous. Not for themselves but for the public. If the driver of the Polo killed a member of the public everybody would be on their back fro causing it by chasing too vigourously.
I guarantee the one armed bandit has struck again. I’ve no proof of this, I’m just guessing. The modus operandi is so him. This is a young man who repeatedly sticks two fingers up at the law. He’s been in and out of prison since arriving on the island five or six years ago. His defence team offer a myriad of excuses and the judiciary swallow it hook, line and sinker. The derisery sentences he gets are doing nothing to help him or the public at large.
I could suggest a remedy but it’s been made illegal for many years now.
I could have stopped him with a tin of rusty nails in whippingham ……. park by the forge so they can’t go up there …… sorted
Thanks for copying my ppst Denise you can keep your ‘rusty nails’ though. Once the parlours open again maybe you could get them sorted.
They should have got the chopper in, who could have hovered over the car with a giant magnet and sucked him up and dropped them in the Solent.
Were the police able to get his number? If so then publish it and then the public could keep an eye out for it (but NOT approach) and report its whereabouts. Simples!
Bet this idiot thinks he’s the dogs when it comes to driving. Bet he thinks he’s well cool cos he can out run the Police. I hope to God this moron doesn’t kill anyone before they catch him. If it’s true and he does this sort of thing on a regular basis, he needs taking off the streets. A 2/3 year stretch inside might calm him down.
