Police are searching for a thief who stole more than £3,000 worth of jewellery from a shop in Shanklin before making his getaway on a pushbike.
The incident occurred at Isle of Wight Jewellers on Regent Street – at the junction with Clarendon Road – shortly after 16:00 on Wednesday (1st June).
It’s said that the male entered the store and asked to see various items of jewellery before taking them once the attendant had put them out on the counter.
He then ran out of the store with the jewellery before making his getaway on a pushbike.
Island Echo has been told the jewellery in question were gold chains worth several thousands of pounds.
Enquiries are ongoing, anyone with information should call 101, quoting the reference 44220217571.
Surely they have CCTV. Why not post his picture for all to see. Wouldn’t take long to catch him then
Because it’s the Key Stone cops that are running the show..
Why do the public get asked for help 5 days after the event?
Could have Cycled to Scotland by now!!
Think the Islands Crime response seems to be a poor for the money we pay?
Would of probably cost him 3k to get off the island last weekend being a bank holiday and all…
Wednesday 1st June it happened and the police are asking for help and information 5 days later.
apologies to the victims who must be going through it but after using a pushbike as getaway vehicle I guess the Police will be narrowing down the location of the thief somewhat.
Perhaps he linked them all together and made a gold chain for his push bike. Then, he could be stopped and searched and the Police would not think of checking his bike chain, especially if greasy.
Some matey on wightbay always advertising for gold chains, maybe they may come his way?
Where is the CCTV footage ?
Or was he waring a face mask.
Police should look at local jewellery thieves like TH or does he only steal from his grandmother or elderly ?
Only on the Isle of Wight could the Pink Panther escape on a push bike. Hilarious !!
Well THE BYCLE BANDIT STRIKES, WHERE’S PIC FROM SHOP CCTV, AND REGENT ST, BUSINESSIS, AND TOWN CAMERA.
Perhaps they wore a hoody, or a cycle helmet, or were of the type who can no longer be blamed for any wrong doing.
Odd why it takes so long to ask for help, and all shops should have hi quality video, and other places around that area must have filmed such surely?
Leaving it so long, many cameras would have no overwritten important data.
Still, even IF caught, a tiny fine and back the next day to do it all again, so guess it doesn’t matter anymore.
Tho council have most likely turned them off to save a few quid
Why did the shop not have security doors that can only be opened by the staff behind the till.
Also why would you not put an item back before you took another out when showing the customer.
I’m surprised that there was £3k of Jewellery in that shop…….
There’s not now…
So easy for the bike man, all he had to do was ride up to the station go down the steps cross the road towards the cycle and walk path, and a nice easy ride to Ventnor, home and dry
Lol, was it you Brad haha
You HAVE to admit that waiting 5 days before asking for help or releasing the information for publication is an absolute travesty! What kind of Police force do we have that they sing about their wonderful response time whilst knowing that a robbery has been kept quiet? I totally agree about CCTV from both the shop and surrounding area but what about a brief description of the offender?’ A MAN’ is not exactly a great description of him, no mention of clothing, and ‘A Pushbike’ is a little generic even for our Police Farce not to mention the direction he pedalled in his high speed escape. Not a good day for Hampshire police!
Perhaps the scumbag was riding a pink bike and the keystone cops didn’t want to offend him..
I wish people would not assume, the fact is the police attended very quickly and sent out pictures of the said offender from our CCTV I asked for it not to be in the media as it is a very upsetting and disturbing situation to be involved in, I am hopeful the police will find the thief but what an awful world we live in when we cannot feel safe in our workplace.
swag??? what. mysterious bike strikes again
what a joke !
Now the Police in our area are to be given £5,000 and they can’t catch a man on a bike !
They are taking the P— aren’t they !
if a one armed man can escape them then a man on a push bike is home and free lol
