A 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a woman in Cowes with officers successfully locating their suspect in a property close to the Police Station in Newport this afternoon (Tuesday).
As part of their efforts to find the wanted male, officers first visited a property on Quarry View, Camp Hill at around 10:00 this morning, without success.
Then, at around 12:45, officers donned in riot gear made entry to a property on the corner of Coppins Bridge and Pyle Street – just yards away from Newport Police Station.
It’s here that a 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The arrest took place so close to the custody suite that officers simply walked the detained individual around the corner to the station.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that the arrest forms part of an investigation into an alleged assault of a woman in the Cowes area yesterday (Monday).
He remains in custody at this time.
Will be most handy for the alleged assailant when the Police let him free for lack of evidence, or some other reason why they can’t be bothered to do the paperwork as our prisons are now full to the brim with half of the third world, that courts cannot send people down unless the most serious crimes occur.

So, proportionally, foreign nationals are less likely to be in prison than those born here.
The real reason that the courts and police can’t cope has nothing to do with foreigners being more likely to commit crimes (they aren’t). It is because of the way our entire criminal justice system from the police right through to prison, has been criminally underfunded for the last 12 years.
