Police on the Isle of Wight are investigating a dog snatching after a Fox Red Labrador was stolen from her kennel in Calbourne at the weekend.
Ruby, a 9-year-old lab, was taken from the Lynch Lane area between Calbourne and Brighstone at some point overnight on Sunday 30th April.
Officers are now appealing for information from anyone who may have been in the Lynch Lane area that evening, or from anyone who can assist with the location of Ruby.
The theft of a dog is a criminal offence under the Theft Act 1968 and offences will also be committed by anyone keeping the dog at their address.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary says that they believe this is an isolated incident with no risk to the wider dog owning community on the Island.
Ruby will be easily identifiable by police and her owners so if you have seen her or know someone who has recently acquired a dog of a similar description contact Police on 101 quoting reference 44230170061.

Her owners must be devastated. I hope she gets back home safe and sound very quickly. 🙁
How much lower can criminals sink.
Animals and their owners have a deep bond, it is heartbreaking for both.
Let’s hope the criminal who did this is caught and the lovely dog and her owners are re-united. Anyone who knows the whereabouts of Ruby needs to call the Police. If they don’t they too can be convicted if proven to be complicit in the crime.
How heartbreaking for Ruby and her owners. I would be at a complete loss if some a hole did that to my pooch. I hope for a speedy and safe return . If you took Ruby, do the decent thing and let her go home. How can you live with yourself?
Best check the local takeaways.
There’s some sick filthy people on this island…
Thoughtless and disrespectful to her owners. Cretin.
Stupid remark from ‘Old school’ incredibly insensitive our pets are our family and it must be absolutely heart breaking for the owners and family . I hope they find Ruby as im sure this is incredibly anxiety provoking for her. I pray who ever has stolen her does not leave the Island and I implore if someone knows where she is phone the police, don’t become part of this crime
Obviously because it is a RED FOX Labrador it has been stolen for breeding purposes or for a lucrative price. So sick comments not necessary. I really do feel for the owners as pets are an extension of most families and deeply loved, sometimes more than humans and I can understand that from some comments receiving the thumbs down – better to have said nothing!
I assume that you are confusing Ruby with a Ruby Murray.
A likely destination.
I sincerely hope that this is not the start of dog thefts by organised gangs. So many are stolen on the mainland.
Our dogs are a part of our families and it can leave families in such terrible sorrow when this happens.
I hope the lab is found soon. My heart goes out to the owner and their family.
It’s a dog. The Police have bigger issues to address.
Dogs are FAMILY ! I pray for her safe return.
Clearly not a dog owner – stupid comment!!!
lets hope you get your car stolen and the police have bigger issues to sort out you twat
Quite right. One less dog to be rescued from a cliff fall or deep mud. One less dog that will be let off the lead and worry sheep etc.
None of my comments condone cruelty, if the perpetrators have physical cruelty in mind, they deserve what’s coming to them.
I find the hand wringing concern a little ott, and fair game for light hearted mockery.
If you want to be outraged consider this. In Iran girls are gassed/slaughtered for going to school to this day, now folks, that is something to be angry about. Puts a missing dog into perspective somewhat.
I think you need to put things into perspective ‘Old school.
The vermin who take animals are sub human, a pet is very often a part of a families life. The people who commit such crimes have no interest in peoples feelings and are only interested in financial gain. There should be sentences similar to those for human kidnap.
I sincerely hope this beautiful animal is reunited with its owners asap.
If they find out who did it ,publish their names and photographs,
Posing with the Snapchat dog filter on
There’s either more to this story or, if it is a theft for breeding as suggested, the thief did not know Ruby’s age as at 9 years old, she really is beyond her safe breeding age. Also I’m not sure about the keeping outside in a kennel. Perhaps it was heated and nice but I could not imagine leaving my beloved pooch outside all night…. I do hope she is safe and found very soon.
Why leave a beautiful and older dog like this in an outside kennel
