UPDATED: The National Police Air Service (NPAS) Helicopter has been assisting Police on the ground with a search in the South Wight this evening (Thursday).
Shortly before 19:25 a number of emergency vehicles were seen to be responding through the village of Godshill towards Whitwell.
It wasn’t long before the eye in the sky was circling overhead, alerting residents to the situation. The Police helicopter from Bournemouth then flew south to Whitwell and later along the coast to Ventnor.
The search has now been called off but not before a thorough sweep of Ventnor town and seafront.
Hampshire Constabulary are yet to comment on the circumstances of this evening’s activity.
UPDATE @ 21:35 – Police have confirmed that they were searching for a vehicle, believed to contain a person of interest.
Despite the extensive search the individual was not located.
It’s thought that the person of interest may be the same person that Police have been searching for over the past week. If so, this would be the 4th helicopter search carried out.
UPDATE @ 23:50 – The NPAS helicopter has returned to the area and is conducting a further search above Ventnor.
It has been confirmed that this search is connected with the earlier efforts and is a result of a further sighting of the wanted vehicle.
No less than 5 helicopter searches have now taken place in the urgent manhunt for a local male.
