POLICE CORDON OFF BLOOD SOAKED PAVEMENT IN RYDE

UPDATED: A section of Cross Street in Ryde has been cordoned off by Police this morning (Sunday) following an incident in the town overnight.

Officers have established a scene guard surrounding a significant pool of blood on the North side pavement, close to the junction with Union Road.

Blood can also be seen further along towards Union Street with cordons also in place along that section of the pavement.

It is thought 1 person has been taken to St Mary’s Hospital after being assaulted. Their injuries are unknown at this time.

Cross Street remains open to both pedestrians and traffic – although Union Street is now closed for the annual slide event.

It remains unclear if this incident is connected with a search of woodland near Fishbourne earlier this morning. At around 04:00 the National Police Air Service helicopter was seen to be circling the Fishbourne Lane area with a number of officers on the ground also.

UPDATE @ 06:58 – Police have now lifted the cordon on Cross Street and officers have left the scene.

UPDATE @ 12:23 – Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that a 32-year-old man has sustained facial injuries following an alleged assault.

Police were called to the scene at Cross Street at around 03:00.

Investigations are ongoing at this time. There has been no mention of any arrests.
