Detectives investigating the attempted murder of a man in Sandown on Tuesday are still searching for the people responsible, as it is confirmed that 2 people from Newport arrested over the attack have since been released without charge.
It was on Tuesday night that Police and paramedics were called to Albion Road in Sandown following reports that a man in his 50s had been found in a pool of blood, as first reported by Island Echo. He was rushed to hospital with serious head injuries, where it is thought he remains.
A cordon was erected around the crime scene and less than 11 hours after the incident it was confirmed a 26-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He has since been bailed until February.
Yesterday, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary confirmed that 2 people had been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, as well as possession of Class A and B drugs.
In a dramatic turn of events, Police have this evening (Friday) confirmed that the 25-year-old woman and 34-year-old man, both from Newport, have been released with no further action being taken. It’s thought they have solid alibis.
Now, 3 days after the incident, which has been described as a ‘savage attack’ by witnesses, Police are continuing their search for those responsible for the assault.
Island Echo understands the victim is a known 54-year-old from Ventnor.
Police say that enquiries remain ongoing.

The twist in the tail is we do not know if the Victim was also involved in drugs or an avenging angel attacking those who supply. Without the full facts it is difficulty to say who are the goodies and baddies. Perhaps all were involved – especially as the victim is a known 54 year old from Ventnor!!!!
