Police were called to an address on Mary Rose Avenue at 21:19 to reports that a number of men were kicking and banging the front door of a residential property.
Officers rushed to the scene and provided support and safeguarding to the victim.
Around 2 hours later, a suspect’s vehicle – a black BMW 1-series – was located on Fairlee Road in Newport. Officers moved to box in the car on the slip road between Fairlee Road and the dual carriageway.
Prior to this, a large number of Police vehicles had taken up position in a variety of locations in the vicinity of Wootton.
It has been confirmed that a 24-year-old man from Newport has been arrested on suspicion of affray and remains in police custody at this time.
Investigations into the exact circumstances of this incident are ongoing, however Hampshire Constabulary would like to reassure people that they believe there to be no threat to the wider public.
Police will be in the Wootton area over the weekend as they conduct further enquiries. Anyone with any questions is encouraged to speak to officers.
The incident comes less than a week after a similar incident at The Fairway Holiday Park in Sandown.
