A man has been arrested by Police after firefighters discovered a number of cannabis plants growing at a property in Ryde this morning (Sunday).
1 appliance from Ryde Fire Station was mobilised to Warwick Street in the town after reports were received of an alarm activation.
Firefighters made entry into the property via a first-floor window where they discovered a cannabis factory.
Police were swiftly alerted to the find and a number of units attended the scene. Officers removed around 10-15 evidence bags from the terraced house.
Enquiries are still on-going and the investigation continues.
UPDATE – Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that a man in his 30s was detained at the scene and will be interviewed under caution at a later date.

You can’t go anywhere in Ryde without smelling cannabis somewhere. It’s probably like it in many places too. My scummy neighbour stinks me out with it, he smokes so much the smell seeps through the walls. Horrible, that and cigarette smoke too, bad enough having to be stuck in like a prisoner but can’t even breathe clean air because of the irritating scumbag.
I agree with you. How far is Warwick Street from Ryde Police Station? Was another bust in that area also not long ago. Police officers could actually walk the streets around their station with sniffer dogs. Bet they would get some hits.
Well done firefighters.
Have you told the Police or Environmental Health?
I know of one that’s been reported 4 times that I know about. The police didn’t want to know. As they put it it’s treated only as “intelligence”
More than once, being driven beyond endurance by noise and smells from the adjoining neighbours, have phoned env health dept, who didn’t want to know but eventually sent log sheets, which I dutifully filled in, only to be told they are not prepared to do anything so get nowhere there, police say it is env health matter and not their concern, I mentioned the cannabis and was told that if someone wants to smoke cannabis in the privacy of their own home, (in this case, rented home, but still, their home) they can and the policewoman I spoke to on the phone about it, seemed to think I was wrong for even mentioning it. yet I hear of police visiting someone for one matter only to find cannabis in the house and the person then gets taken to court for that, so how can anyone know where they are? so much conflicting information.
And if the police are not prepared to do anything about something you report to them, then what can you do? it is so wearing to be continually banging your head against a brick wall, because that is what it feels like.
Afterthought:
I feel one reason they are not prepared to do anything is because the whole Island is so swamped by scummy people now, drug users and the like , that the police don’t know what to do about them all, as there are so many they cannot possibly deal with them all as not enough police, resources, etc. The sheer numbers if known by everyone, would be alarming, so the perpetrators get away with it or all anyone would ever hear about in the local courts would be drug and alcohol offences, these people are becoming the majority in many areas and when you are not one of them, you are the minority, and that is frightening.
Have balls knock his door? Instead of being a troll
Zoe ward, do you think I haven’t tried that? I did go round at first,, few yrs ago. Not prepared to do that anymore, he has all kinds of equally scummy types go in there and i am alone and not young and not prepared to put myself into harms way again, as that is just foolish. I tried being reasonable and polite and explain how it was effecting me, first I got palmed off with a laughing at me attitude, then when I persisted, started to get abuse back, so I had to leave it. police told me I should not have gone round there at all as he could then turn round and say i was harassing him. (Not to mention putting myself at risk.) You have no idea.
Good news and well done
Well done our brave boys in blue, and let’s hope many more raids will follow in Ryde. When diverse classes such as teachers still chose to grow in their garages in back streets and are known to many to be doing so it only take one call.
Shows how profitable or how greedy such people become as many would risk losing a professional job to grow such though, as they will lose everything. Awful to be that greedy when ruining the lives of those you are paid to protect being their role model is way more than disgusting.
Let us hope ‘others’ learn, but as it is so profitable and all tax free can’t see it ending until these people are forced to lose all they have and if having nothing then paying back into society from any benefits they are getting.
Our CV burdened NHS is struggling so hard to keep going without adding more drug users to it’s future problems.
It is our duty to report such people now. They have been warned enough.
Bet you drink though..
Me thinks you doth protest too loudly Nwo . Is the teacher a relation or a friend or are you merely protesting over ‘this’ latest accused low life, or perhaps merely trying to justify your own sleezy little habit?
Too many openly selling ‘growing tents’ on Wightbay etc, and the Police will do nothing, whilst the NHS will eventually get burdened with the results of drug users be it their own messed up heads, or worse those they maim and kill by smoking and driving in their befuddled happy heads.
Most now don’t drink and drive, yet many drive whilst influenced by drugs.
These people need to have their cars taken, evicted from their rented homes, and if private owned fined so heavily to ensure that the gain isn’t worth the pain.
Firefighters grass now? (Excuse the pun)
lol
You have two types of smoker on the Island, both as sad as the other;
The first lot are the Chavs who pay £10 for wraps of skunk and pretend they’re lovers of cannabis and ’oh so cool’
The second (and worst) lot are the wannabe hippies who smoke the same stuff, (in front of their kids no less, as I have witnessed on the seafront), and pretend they’re hippies living by Venice Beach when they’re actually on the very English Isle of Wight!!
Decent Islanders are rightly getting fed up of them
Sadly it seems the decent people are in the minority, We are now outnumbered by the dope-heads and just get laughed at if we try to complain, or as happened in my case, they just flat out deny it, even though you can smell it and they know you can, the contemptuous smirking from my scummy neighbour when i once tried to politely request he not smoke so much of it in the house , and the denials, then the abuse and hints of threats, and if you dare to persist, you’d be accused of harassment. Decent people can’t win in this day and age, i keep hoping things will change, but it doesn’t seem like it will.
Ok boomer
Cannabis factory = plant pot.
Ryde snack head heaven now lock the scum up for a long time
Nothing wrong with Ryde! People should be more worried about the smack heads not a bit of weed! The smack heads probably come to ryde from all over the island!
Why is everybody picking on Ryde? I don’t live there but it’s no worse or better than anywhere else
Where ever they live they are scum the Island used to be a lovely place but now it’s turning into a rundown shabby seaside town such as Sandown I bet they don’t work getting all the benefits going to help fund their factory
No it is worse in Ryde, you see alot of people clearly on drugs there, its always being raided
we dont have clear up partys cleaning needles off the beach in ryde like you do in sandown,
You see that everywhere on the island
Oh what will you all do when it is legalised… which is inevitable.
Like I said, they have become the majority. And when a group of people become the majority, that becomes the norm. The lunatics have truly taken over the asylum,
Or maybe you’re part of the older generation that thinks they know best. Do you have one convincing argument to why it shouldn’t be legalised (with actual scientific evidence to illustrate the point)?
I posted a link to a scientific article, that hasn’t showed up, so I then copied and pasted the words, that also has not, as yet anyway, shown up here.
I have heard medical programmes state quite categorically that cannabis use destroys brain cells and can lead to many other health problems.
i lost a friend from emphysema which he got from a lifelong cannabis smoking habit, also the smell of it is unpleasant having to breathe it in when you have no choice because it is being smoked nearby, plus how stupid some people get when they are on it, incapable of having a conversation whereas when not under the influence, they are perfectly capable. and also should not be driving when under the influence. Is is not called a drug for nothing.
And no, I am not one of these people who think that alcohol is alright and cannabis not. I think none of it is good in excess, and addicts cannot have anything in moderation and that is mainly where the problem is. The people who get addicted.
{Plus, laughable that you imply that older people would be disapproving by way of the fact that they are older, when there are so many people about who are old and still smoking the weed because they started smoking it in the 1960s back when they were younger and they have never been able to stop. Plenty of old people about who are dopeheads.}
@Stay at home Would your propaganda “scientific” article be from The Daily Mail or some random Facebook post by any chance? Because I know plenty of people who smoke weed on the daily and completely fine and have been doing it for years.
Dan Skelton, no, it was neither from the Daily Mail or Facebook. I have no idea why Island Echo did not allow the link to be posted, or the article which I copied and pasted. It seems pointless in me trying to post it again as it probably will not show up here again if I tried.
The article is from a website called drugfreeworld.org and is in a section called “The Truth About Marijuana” entitled: THE HARMFUL EFFECTS OF MARIJUANA
I have also heard scientific and medical programmes saying the same thing, and having known people who regularly smoke the stuff, I can certainly testify to the fact that it makes them appear stupid, even if they aren’t.
It also can make depression worse, as I can definitely affirm, after being persuaded to try it once by a confirmed dopehead who assured me it would help with anxiety conditions, it did not, but it certainly left me feeling terribly depressed and gloomy the next day, far worse than anything I had encountered before.
Lads face it, the war on drugs isn’t going to ever end. I don’t get why people still s*it over people for wanting to smoke cannabis, there’s literally no harm doing it when you use it in moderation.
Because it makes you paranoid unless you take it for pain control then why bother get a job and spend your money on something worthwhile
@Linda Exactly the kind of thing a boomer would say. So what? I personally don’t smoke or drink or so whatever, but I work my butt off full time and so what if I wanted to spend my money on something. Weed isn’t just for bums or medication, I know people who also work full time and buy the odd bit every now and then to help them chill and relax. It’s the same principle when someone wants to buy a couple of beers after a hard weeks work and chill. So what’s the problem?
The point is though that why should other people be FORCED to breathe it in against their will? Why should people who do not want to have to breathe it in have no choice in the matter because they cannot get away from it?
I do wish we could all come to our senses and move towards legalisation. Take the money away from criminals, gain revenue from taxation, ensure that it’s a ‘pure’ product, stop wasting police time and money. The issues against tend to be purely from entrenched moralistic misinformation and propaganda.
Not all ‘users’ are ‘scum’ as people here like to put it. Most teenagers will try it at some point (which they shouldn’t until 25) but it being illegal ensures that they have to deal with dangerous criminals.
Wonder how many downvotes this comment will get
Touché. If anything all the boomers and brain washed people who read propaganda and believe everything they see on Facebook will downvote you into oblivion.
Boomerpatrol 100% agree with you! Yet alcohol is far more worse, but you can freely buy it! Legalise the weed and make alcohol illegal! Crime due to being drunk and disorderly would decrease dramatically
Total joke it’s plants you wouldn’t be moaning if misses Smith down the road had a room full of roses growing hydroponicley you all uneducated stupid people ain’t got a clue how can you rightfully breaking down doors ruinng people’s fun and hobbys over a cupboard cannabis grow if we legalised it for and after this lock down and the government sold it smartly we could re grow the NHS they would never be in debt again and would have a never ending pot of cash fix up our roads and our infrastructure and you economic situation would be saved thing you close minded fun killing boring brain dead morons
stop winging, its pathetic, just read the news, no one is interested in the warped opinions expressed here by the regular wingers , get a life, you only happy when your moaning, so boring
boring
like your spamming of the comments section.
For the past few years I have had difficulty working out in yard, then in 2017 it got harder and harder to breathe. After many tests, it was a CT scan that showed COPD, emphysema and scarring in my lungs. I quit smoking 8 years ago but the damage has been done. I got to a point I couldn’t catch my breath and was coughing so hard I thought the top of my head would blow off, nothing was really working to help my condition. Finally i came across Herbal Rich Herbal Gardens (ww w. richherbalgardens. c om) December 2018 and learnt about their successful herbal therapy for COPD. I immediately started on the COPD treatment; few weeks into the treatment, i began to notice a reduction in symptoms till it all vanished. I feel better and breath better. I Just wanted to share for people suffering from this horrible lungs disease.
