A collision between an elderly pedestrian and a hatchback has seen a main road in Ventnor closed this lunchtime (Tuesday).
Several resources from both the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary are on scene on St Boniface Road after several 999 calls were received at around 12:15.
Island Echo understands that an elderly pedestrian attempting to cross the road was hit by a Toyota heading out of Ventnor towards Shanklin. The pedestrian involved in the collision has been quickly helped into an ambulance where they are being tended to by medical professionals, including a critical care paramedic.
Police have erected a cordon around the scene of the crash as they begin to piece together what exactly has occurred.
St Boniface Road has been closed between the junctions with Mitchell Avenue and Leeson Road. As a result of the collision, Southern Vectis route 3 buses are diverting via Trinity Church in both directions.
This is the second time today that blue light colleagues have been called to the South Wight following a 2-vehicle crash between Ventnor and Whitwell earlier today.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area whilst the incident is dealt with.
UPDATE @ 14:10 – St Boniface Road has now reopened. Police have confirmed that the pedestrian has suffered serious, but not life threatening, injuries.

If only the island enforced 20mph islandwide to
make the island a safe place for everyone.
20mph is plenty
Unlikely to have even been doing 20; that’s just past the junction/bend.
True but it is amazing what some motorists do.
Stay safe.
Do shut up
speed is not the problem, Age and a total lack of awareness is though
