UPDATED: Emergency services are attending to a cyclist who has been involved in a road traffic incident on Middle Road near Calbourne this afternoon (Tuesday).
The incident, involving a car and bicycle, has taken place on Sun Hill near to New Barn Farm on the main Calbourne to Newport road. The road has now been closed by Police in both directions.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are on scene having been alerted at around 15:00.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area with traffic said to be at a standstill, including on nearby roads such as Betty Haunt Lane.
UPDATE @ 15:44 – The casualty is said to be conscious and breathing and is not thought to have sustained any serious injuries.
The vehicle involved is a Ford Fusion.
The road remains closed at this time and as a result Southern Vectis’ school buses Routes 325, 327, 401 and 403 are diverting.
UPDATE @ 20:54 – Middle Road has now re-opened in both directions.
The cyclist has been taken to St Mary’s Hospital.
