It’s all smiles in Ryde as a new Isle of Wight dental practice is given the green light.
The Isle of Wight Council has approved plans to transform the former youth and community centre on Ryde High Street.
A dental practice will be installed in the heart of the town, with 9 clinical rooms, a reception area, sterilisation room, and 15 full-time employees.
A new floor will be created in the upper part of the former church, to house 5 of the clinic spaces.
The proposals have been submitted by Dr Darko Iloski, currently a dentist with Bupa Dental Care in Ryde and the Sandown Dental Practice.
The youth centre has been empty for a while and has been on the market multiple times since it closed, with only the lower ground floor occupied and used as a nursery. There is no mention in the planning documents of when the surgery could open.
A dental crisis on the Island has taken shape in the last 2 years, as a lack of appointments and availability of dentists has meant some Islanders are struggling to be treated.

Sounds great but will they be taking on NHS patients here?
What about parking?!? This is oppression from the WEF, do your own research!
walk, you bone idle layabout
i am still waiting for a call back from 3 weeks ago
Any NHS dentists involved? I thought not.
At last an old building put to good use
The Town Hall next ?
Good news ????
Are they going to be NHS and Private or only private???????
Let’s hope both !!!!!
Bet it will not take NHS so whats the point of this.
because there is demand for private healthcare from those that don’t want to wait in a queue, with the benefit sponging, workshy dossers
I broke my tooth the other day and can’t get a PRIVATE appointment until OCTOBER!
Great need more dental surgeries
No, we need more NHS dental surgeries – it’s not the same thing.
Will there be NHS dentists in it? Dr Darko was a great dentist at Melville St…
