A large and enthusiastic audience filled Newport Minster for the penultimate concert by the Phoenix Choir, held in aid of the local charity Wight Cardiac Rehab.
The charity provides a structured and supervised exercise programme for people with heart conditions. The patron, Major General Sir Martin White, and the Chairman, Gary Smith, thanked all those attending for supporting the event.
The choir sang their usual wide-ranging selection of songs from films, musicals and other genres. Soloists included Paul Stevens (An American Trilogy), Elizabeth Habens (Pie Jesu), Pat Attrill (Sweet Dreams), Jan Merwood (Caledonia), Ian Attrill (I Can’t Stop Loving You), Alistair Drain (I’ll See You In My Dreams), and the choir sang songs from The Lion King, Ghost, Les Miserables, An Officer And A Gentleman and Titanic amongst others.
The concert raised in excess of £1,700 for the Island charity.
The Phoenix Choir’s final performance will be on Saturday 5th July, again in Newport Minster, starting at 14:30 – their first, and last, afternoon performance, in aid of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.
