A 46-year-old man from Yarmouth has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving after yesterday’s crash on Middle Road, in which a stolen Fiat 600 ended up on its roof.
As first reported by Island Echo, emergency services were called to Middle Road – to the west of The Blacksmiths – at around 16:30. It was reported that a car had overturned and the driver had fled the scene.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed today that a 46-year-old male has been arrested for a number of alleged offences, including drug driving, failing to stop after an accident and theft of a motor vehicle.
He remains in custody this afternoon.
Island Echo understands the Fiat 600 Hybrid – belonging to a local woman – was stolen on Sunday.
So was he a Torygraph-reading, tea-drinking, drug-using thief or were those the rightful owner’s possessions?
