Wightlink is pushing the boat out to come to the aid of stricken Ryde Inshore Rescue.
The ferry company has offered to stage a number of fundraising activities in aid of the voluntary rescue organisation as part of its Party on the Pier Event this weekend (Sunday). It will also make a donation to the group.
Both the group’s lifeboats are currently out of action after vandals broke into the group’s Apply HQ and slashed the hulls of the vessels, as previously reported by Island Echo.
Chris Cowley, Wightlink’s media relations manager, said:
“Like everyone else, we were shocked that this group should be targeted by vandals. Ryde Inshore Rescue performs a vital role in keeping those who use our beaches safe so we are determined to do what we can to help”.
Chris said Wightlink had already been discussing with the rescue organisation ways it could use the Party on the Pier to raise money. But after hearing of the group’s current plight, new ideas to get the money flowing had been agreed.
Not only will Ryde Inshore Rescue be collecting during the event, traders will also be asked to donate a share of their takings to add to Wightlink’s own donation.
Chris added:
“We continue to talk to Ryde Inshore rescue and if they come up with any more suggestions as to how they can use the Party on the Pier to raise funds then we will gladly taken them on board if at all possible”.
The event will also raise money for the Cassie’s Care 4 Pets charity which specifically helps older people pay the full costs of vets’ bills.
Meanwhile, Ben from Appley Café has kindly suggested to Ryde Inshore Rescue that his Derek Sandy nights are to be a charity fundraising event every Monday evening throughout the whole of the summer holidays, in order to raise awareness of the work Ryde Inshore Rescue do, as well as collecting money.
The fundraiser will start from this coming Monday (28th July).
