The driver and passenger of a car managed to escape with nothing more than minor injuries after rolling in Havenstreet last night (Wednesday).
Emergency services were called to the scene on the main road through the village sometime before 22:30 following reports that a vehicle had crashed and come to rest on its side.
Those inside the vehicle had to smash their way through the windscreen to get out, with the assistance of other motorists.
Amazingly, no serious injuries were sustained in the single vehicle collision which saw the unrecognisable car come to rest half off the carriageway on an unlit road.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service attended the scene and checked over those involved.
It has been suggested that speed played a part in the crash, with Police reminding Islanders to drive according to the conditions.

proves that the car and safety features protected the occupants from the potential life threatening situation they were in, which was apparently caused by dreadful driving
Pity the driver’s ‘brain’ or lack of one, did nof protect the occupants. Another total idiot. i
Also proves that its not dangerous roads at fault like people on here always bleet on about.
Let’s count up all the accidents in last 6 months shall we! Iow driving standard here is well known too be poor and the more scummy youngsters that get dumped here for free added too old folk not fit or safe too drive, the fire service will be kept busy for years too come
I don’t think you deserve 12 thumbs up. Quite nasty really and very AGEIST
I can’t say I’m surprised given the way some lunatics drive through Havenstreet.
Absolutely agree Paul. I stay well clear. Have Street us a rat run and they drive way too fast. It’s like ‘wacky races’!!!
Drive according to the conditions ? How about drive to your abilities?
What were they doing driving around at 10.30pm anyway if everywhere is closed?
I’m pretty damn sure it wasn’t an essential journey.
So much for “stay at home to help relieve the pressure on the NHS and emergency services”, all they have done is add to it, and for what – a bit of joy riding because they are bored. Or perhaps it was an essential drugs run.
You don’t know why they were driving at that time….?
Traffic calming and cameras are needed desperately on the Island.
It is the only way to make people slow down.
Speeding????? Driving without due care and attention???? Quite normal for some on the island.
All these shitty comments about young people being bad drivers, well what about all those old people who are also shit drivers.
So true. And many are on medication that means they should not be driving. I support the need to have to retake your theory test every 10 years. At the same time a basic medical check is done. (don’t have to be old to loose your sight) If you fail the theory you have 3 months to take a full test. If you don’t no more licence.
Having a driving licence is a privileged that one earns from study and driving safely. Time we enforce that.
Sorry, folks, that should read “roll” their cars…these old tired fingefs have spent too long driving safely… and to a high standard
Correctomundo my friend
Older drivers don’t roll their cars every single day and night on this island….but young idiots do !
And sometimes s * * t happens!! I do concede there seems to be LOTS of accidents lately tho. So on that thought, lets (1) blame it on young idiots, (2) old fools, (3) COVID, (4) trees moving, (5) wet roads, (6) dry roads, (7) drugs, (8) drink, (9) lampposts. Oh I dunno – I’ve lost the will now!!! Oops, knew I’d forgotten something (10) lots of ‘undesirables’ moving here or has that not happened yet? Stay safe all.
Interesting to see all my thumbs down. Hmm – lots of people on here with such strong views – no doubt ALL perfect drivers – and seemingly ALL in the know about the cause of accidents and have the real FACTS etc etc. Hope you get sympathy should you ever have a misfortune!! I’m sick of the slating on here by people who rhink they know it all and get thumbs up when in reality they probably know very little. Hey ho, I guess it makes some people feel like they have an important role in life!
