UPDATED: Residents living on Pan Estate in Newport will have to find somewhere else to park between now and April as a no parking, no waiting traffic order has been imposed on Furrlongs.
The Isle of Wight Council, in connection with Island Roads, have placed a temporary no waiting at any time parking restriction on the main road through the estate. The restriction has been imposed whilst Southern Water carry out works on nearby Staplers Road.
From today (Monday), no person is permitted to park or stop a vehicle on either side of the road for its entire length, from its junction with Staplers Road to its junction with St George’s Way.
It is hoped that the removal of cars from the public highway will help with the flow of traffic as motorists seek alternative routes into Newport as a result of the one-way closure of Staplers Road.
Motorists should anticipate significant delays in and around Newport between now and mid-April.
UPDATE TUESDAY @ 07:30 – The Isle of Wight Council have announced that the temporary parking restriction has been lifted, pending further investigation by Island Roads…
